Movember at ALTO

CSR

November has been recognised worldwide as a month of solidarity with men facing prostate and testicular (and other) cancer. It is not without reason that Movember is also held this month. The name is a combination of two words: moustache and November.

The main aim of the campaign is to change the face of men’s health, and the moustache, which is a symbol of the campaign and which men grow throughout the month, is intended to symbolise this change – not only as a sign of solidarity, but above all to arouse the curiosity of those around them and to promote discussion of cancer prevention and incidence among men.

If you think these are issues that don’t concern you, you’re wrong – they do.

Testicular cancer – is one of the most common malignancies occurring among men in the 20-44 age group (25% of cases in this group). More than 1,000 new cases of testicular cancer are reported each year. Approx. 100 patients die each year. The incidence of testicular malignancies among children (0-19 years) is also increasing.

Prostate cancer – it is estimated that one in three men aged between 50 and 80 years and 80% of men over 80 will develop prostate cancer. The risk of developing the disease increases with age and particularly affects men over 45. According to statistics, around 10,000 men in Poland develop prostate cancer each year – a third of them die because they are diagnosed too late.

Penile cancer – is a rare cancer that statistically accounts for 0.3% of all malignant tumours in men. Penile cancer is most common after the age of 60, but there is a noticeable increase in incidence in younger men. Each year in Poland, approx. 200 cases of penile cancer are diagnosed, and half of the patients unfortunately lose the battle.

Ahead of us is another action at ALTO – this time we are raising awareness and acting for men’s health prevention!

We are doing another campaign to show that knowledge and awareness of the topic can save the lives of those we love – husbands, partners, fathers, sons, grandfathers, friends.

Therefore, this month will be a month of building and manifesting awareness of the importance of preventive male health! Ahead of us, among other things, there will be a workshop led by a urologist, a specialist in andrological surgery, which will focus on prevention and health practice, i.e. what every man should know (and do) in order to properly control his health.

…NOVEMBER IS A MAN!
